Project Mastery

A different way to understand Projects and how they can be managed.

Some common assumptions about projects and how they are managed

  • Generic placeholder image
    Projects don't need management
    Assumption 2
  • Generic placeholder image
    We can 'operationalise' projects
    Assumption 3

What are Assumptions?

Asssumptions arise in a situation where I make an automatic response,
that is, I give little or no thought in questioning the validity of either:
my initial response or action, perhaps due to existing habits or social pressure, or
my understanding about that situation, without questioning the context or my ability to respond (agency)

Assumptions are often made subconsciously.
Assumptions cause problems because my automatic response is not appropriate for the situation.

Making assumptions - what can I do about it?

Stop and Think before you Act.
Question whether you should reappraise the situation - what do you think is happening and if your automatic response is appropriate.
What could be a more appropriate response?
This requires you to 'wake up' to what is happening arond you.
Many people 'sleepwalk' through the day, conserving energy by limiting the effort devoted to thinking and being aware of what is going on around them.
You must become more consciously aware of the circumstances, of yourself, your emotional state and the emotions of others.
This requires discipline to stop and take time to consider before responding. Taking time to think requires mental energy, but will achieve better outcomes.
It can be difficult to overcome social pressures that expect certain behaviours in certain situations.
