A different way to understand Projects and how they can be managed.
Where are all the good project managers?
Modern-day expertise in project management has been developed in sectors such as defence contracting, construction of the built environment and information technology. In these sectors, projects and project management are seen as core to business success because they introduce new value through products such as submarines, bridges and communication systems. As a result, broader industry has recognised the importance of projects and the demand for project management expertise has increased significantly. Recruitment opportunities are good for competent project managers, especially those with recent experience of project success.
Across a range of sectors, (e.g. health, education, the media, leisure and finance), project management methods are used for new initiatives and change programmes, such as changes to business models and organisational change initiatives, that are not creating tangible outcomes.
To compound the situation, project outcomes must also include responses to the climate crisis. New regulations and, significantly, social pressure are raising the bar for achieving project success. Industry and, therefore, project managers, must provide realistic responses to urgent sustainability problems that must not fail.
