A different way to understand Projects and how they can be managed.
Some common assumptions about projects and how they are managed
With so much information available and opportunities to see projects from so many different viewpoints, how can we be sure that our perspective is correct? Or, at least, correct for our needs, in our industry and for our project type? We would like to investigate what are common features across all projects and what may be possible differences between projects of different types that need different management approaches.
All projects experience difficulties due to unavoidable problems. Usually, these difficulties will be problems with technology, especially new technology, that can quickly devour available time and budget. But what if the problems and difficulties arise from a lack of understanding, and making incorrect assumptions about what is a project and what project managers need to do? This can lead to poor decision making and incorrect action at all levels of the organisation.
